MAY: My Memories Are Yours

چکیده
In human relations engagement and continuous communication is promoted by the process of sharing experiences. This type of social behaviour plays an important role in the maintenance of relationships with our peers and it is grounded by cognitive features of memory. Aiming at creating agents that sustain long-term interactions, we developed MAY, a conversational virtual companion that gathers memories shared by the user into a three layer knowledge base, divided in Lifetime Periods, General Events and Event-Specific-Knowledge. We believe that its cue sensitive structure increases agent adaptability and gives it capabilities to perform in a social environment, being able to infer about the user’s common and uncommon events. Results show that these agent’s capabilities contribute to development of intimacy and companionship.

This is a commentary on the article ‘The rise of post-truth populism in pluralist liberal democracies: challenges for health policy.’ It critically examines two of its key concepts: populism and ‘post truth.’ This commentary argues that there are different types of populism, with unclear links to impacts, and that in some ways, ‘post-truth’ has resonances with arguments advanced in the period a...
متن کاملForgetting My Memories by Listening to Yours: The Impact of Perspective-Taking on Socially-Triggered Context-Based Prediction Error
The mind is a prediction machine. In most situations in which it finds itself, it has expectations as to what might happen. But when people’s expectations are invalidated by experience, the memories that gave rise to these expectations are suppressed. The present research explores the effect of these prediction errors on listener’s memories during social interaction. We reasoned that listening ...

Suppose you and I are both editing a document. You make and change and I make a change, concurrently. Now if we want to still be seeing the same document then I need to apply your change after mine and you mine after yours. But we can’t just apply them willy-nilly. I must amend yours somehow and you mine. If my change is written ∆, yours δ, my amended change δ.∆ and yours ∆.δ, we get ∗∆ ∗ ∆.δ =...
متن کاملTesting Generalization in Learned Simulated Robot Behaviors
Barriers to empirical comparisons of architectures are myriad and daunting, especially for physical robots. Architectures are implemented on different platforms that are often incompatible. Replicability is difficult to produce, and the multiple trials required for statistical significance are simply impractical or infeasible. The design criteria may be quite different as well, leading to poten...
